| I began my journey of higher studies five years ago when I came to Japan as a government scholar. I had to go through a Japanese language intensive course for one year in Osaka University of Foreign studies before I entered OsakaUniversity. Although I came to Japan with lots of hopes, my journey is not a bed of roses. The language barrier, cultural difference and the new atmosphere weren’t that pleasant for the first few years of my stay. Being an Engineering student I doubted whether I can really survive my higher studies with a foreign language which I was not familiar with. But it was just a matter of how effective you are when adapting to the new environment. Soon I also realized that it’s not going to be that tough and there are a lot of people to help me. So, slowly Japan has become my second motherland and the foreign students, Japanese students around me become my new family. Supporting role of my professors, host families and others is also not to be forgotten. | 私は5年前に大学で勉強するために日本政府の奨学金で日本にやってきました。私は大阪外国語大学で一年間の日本語の集中コースを受けました。私は多くの期待を胸に抱いて日本にやってきましたが、それは手放しで喜べるものではありませんでした。言葉の壁、文化的な違い、新しい環境は、初めの2，3年は私にとっては快適なものではありませんでした。私は慣れない外国語の環境のなか、大学で自分の勉学（理工系）を全うできるか自信がありませんでした。しかしそれは新しい環境に適応するときに誰もが経験することだったのです。そして、すぐに私は、そこでやっていくことはそんなには難しいことではなく、また、多くの人が助けてくれることにも気がつきました。次第に日本は私の第二の故郷となり、私の周りの留学生や日本人学生は私の新しい家族となったのです。教員、ホストファミリー、その他の方々の助けもまた忘れがたいものとなりました。 |
Further, the interest outside of my studies made me a committee member for the Osaka University International Students Association (OUISA). I worked as the IT Administrator with the aid of my major for the fist year and could also establish a good connection with the other committee members. For the year 2005 I become the president of OUISA with the intention of reaching out to all the foreigners with the well laid foundation from the successful first year. Our major objective of the International students Association is to build a comfortable atmosphere for the foreign students and create a mutual understanding between the foreigners and the fellow Japanese people. Currently we are engaged in activities such as cultural programs, sports activities and so on, to achieve our mission. But to tell you the truth, this is just the second year of our journey and we still have a long way to go. Therefore currently we focus on building up our community with the support of the existing associations related to foreigners. Some of the associations working with us are Brothers and Sisters Program (BSP), Coop foreign students association, Sigma foreign students association. |
研究以外の面では、私は、大阪大学留学生会OUISAの委員に選ばれました。私は自分の専門を生かして一年目はIT担当の役員として働き、委員会のメンバー達とも良い関係を築くことが出来ました。2005年には一年目の成功をより広げるために、OUISAの会長になりました。 留学生会の主な目的は、留学生に快適な環境を提供し、外国人と仲間の日本人たちの間に相互理解を生み出すことです。最近私たちはこの使命を果たすべく、文化的なプログラム、スポーツ活動などにも力を入れています。しかし本当の事を言うと、これは単に私たちの二年目の挑戦であり、先はまだまだ長いのです。（ゆえに）私たちは最近、今ある様々な国際交流関係のグループの助けをかりて自分たちのコミュニティを構築する事に力を注いでいます。ブラザー・アンド・シスターズプログラム（BSP）、生協留学生チーム、シグマ留学生会などが私たちとともに活動しています。 |
The experience gained from interacting with the people from all over the world of various backgrounds is enormous. Especially when you have to involve in activities with other fellow students I think you really learn to listen to each others’ opinions and learn to respect not only each other but also each others’ cultures which I think very is vital when living in a foreign country. |
世界中の様々なバックグラウンドを持った人々との関わりから得る経験というものは計り知れません。特に仲間の学生たちと活動をともにすれば、互いに意見を良く聞き、単に個人としてではなく互いの文化をも尊重することを学ぶでしょう。そしてそれは特に外国にすんでいるときは、非常に重要であると私は考えています。 |
Finally this is my message to you. If you are a foreign student or a Japanese student of OsakaUniversity, please come forward and shake hand with us. If you are a professor or an employee of OsakaUniversity please share your expertise and vast knowledge with us. If you are an outsider, don’t think that you are not part of us. We warmly welcome all your precious ideas to make our journey more colorful.
