Nankin Tamasudare / 南京玉すだれ

| Have you ever seen Nankin Tamasudare? Nankin Tamasudare is a type of traditional Japanese street performance. Since it is called “Nankin” a lot of people think that it is from China, but it has nothing to do with China. It is said that in the past people thought that anything unusual was from China, and so the name of a Chinese city, “Nankin,” was attached to it. A Nankin Tamasudare is made from 56 bamboo poles strung together. By twisting it you can change form different shapes. Even tough it is made of straight bamboo poles it can make a ring as round as a takoyaki. | みなさんは南京玉すだれをみたことありますか？ 南京玉すだれは日本の伝統的な大道芸のひとつです。 「南京」という名前が付いているので、中国から来たものだと思う人も多いですが、 中国とは関係ありません。昔はなんでも珍しいものは中国から来た、と考えられたので、「南京」という中国の町の名前がつけられたのだといわれています。 南京玉すだれは、56本の竹の棒をつないで作ります。ひねり方を変えると、いろいろな形をつくりだすことができます。まっすぐな竹の棒なのに、たこ焼きのような丸い輪になったりします。 |
When I was a child I was surprised by the way that a Nankin Tamasudare could be made into many different shapes in an instant. Since then I kept thinking that if I had a chance to do it, I would like to give it a try. But no such opportunity presented itself. Even if you have an opportunity to see a traditional Japanese performance, there are not very many experience them yourself. But a few years ago, on an internet search, I found out that there is a place to learn Tamasudare, immediately I entered the club. Since then I have mastered the techniques of the Tamasudare, and have performed at many places. If I have a chance, I would like to perform at Handai. Will you give it a try? |
私は子供のころ南京玉すだれをみて、様々な形が一瞬にして作られるという事に驚きました。それ以来、もしできるなら自分でもやってみたい、そう思い続けていました。けれどなかなかそういう機会はありませんでした。日本の伝統芸というのは、見る機会はあっても、自分で体験する機会はあまりないのです。
しかし数年前、インターネットで検索して、玉すだれを習うところがあるという事を知り、即座にその会に入りました。以来、私は玉すだれの技をマスターし、様々なところで演じています。チャンスがあれば阪大でも演じてみたいと思います。
