| As a foreigner, I have always been attracted to the wonders of Japanese culture. There is something very beautiful in the Japanese arts. As a part of Japanese culture, like many foreigners, I have been interested in Geisha. Thus I was very lucky when my homestay family took me to Kyoto to get dressed up as a Maiko. A Maiko is a Geisha in training, and normally accompany the Geisha who are training them. It took about an hour to be dressed up as a Maiko, including the application of a large amount of make-up. After I was dressed, I had the chance to walk around, and I headed to the nearby Kiyomizudera. It was very hard to climb stairs in the geta. I had to be very careful to not fall down. Although it was hard to move, I had a great time. | 外国人として、昔から日本の素晴らしい文化に興味を持っていました。日本の芸術は不思議な美しさがあります。私も多くの外国人と同じで、芸者に興味を持っていました。それで運が良くて、ホームステイ家族と一緒に京都に行って舞妓の衣装を着る機会がありました。舞妓というのは見習い芸者のことなので、普通は先輩芸者と一緒に仕事をする。舞妓の姿になるには、お化粧をする時間を含んで、一時間ぐらいかかりました。着替えた後、近所を歩くこともできたので、私は近くの清水寺に行きました。下駄で階段を上るのは大変で、倒れないように気をつけました。動くのも難しかったが本当に楽しかった。 |
