To Begin with	はじめに
On the 6th of may 2004 a community site for foreign exchange students and researchers and those living in the surrounding areas of the Osaka University was released called “GCN Osaka. Two years in development/the making,it received support from the Osaka university International Students Association (currently called the International Exchange council), the Osaka Frontier Research Center, E-Japan Forum, support/volunteer corporation, JAFSA (Japan Network for International Education.) It continues today because of the co-operation of members of the OsakaUniversity faculty, students, corporations in the surrounding area and international exchange volunteer members. In this article I plan to discuss the process of putting the site into action, the current state of administration of the site, and issues to face in the future. GCN has been drawing attention from various facets of the community outside the university as well as being published in the: Yomiuri Newspaper, (twice) Japanese Business/Economics Newspaper, Exchange community/society (twice.) There have been requests to hold presentations at HokkaidoUniversity, the University consortium held at Kyoto just to name a few.	２００４年５月6日、大阪大学とその周辺を対象に、外国人研究者や留学生のために設計されたコミュニティー・サイト、“GCN　Osaka”が実験運用を開始した。構想段階から2年近い期間を要し、大阪大学留学生委員会（現在は「国際交流委員会」）、阪大フロンティア研究機構、Eジャパン協議会、支援企業、JAFSA（国際教育交流協議会）などからの支援を受けるとともに、阪大の教職員、学生、周辺自治体、国際交流関係のボランティアの方々の協力によって、運用が継続している。ここで、これまでの取り組みの経緯、サイト運営の現状、さらに将来に向けた課題について報告する。読売新聞（２回）、日本経済新聞、留学交流（２回）に掲載されたほか、北海道大学、大学コンソーシアム京都などから講演を依頼されるなど、学外からも注目を集めている。
