Dear Alumni of Osaka University,

Ever since our establishment in 1931, Osaka University has grown and developed to become one of the leading institutions of research and higher education in Japan. Today, Osaka University enrolls nearly twenty thousand students, and after our merger with Osaka University of Foreign Studies in October 2007, Osaka University will be the largest national university in Japan.

Osaka University lives by our motto, "Live locally, grow globally," in the education and training of students to become world leaders in their fields. From early on, Osaka University has strived to contribute to the international community and has admitted many international students from Asia and other countries. As of May 2006, almost 1000 students from 72 different countries study at the Suita and Toyonaka campuses.

Graduates and alumni of Osaka University are taking on important roles in the global community and are the pride of our school. In today's age of ever-increasing globalization, relations between alumni and ties with their alma mater are becoming more and more important. Osaka University highly values our graduates and we wishes extend our support in education, research, and industry.

GCN Worldwide was created with the three main objectives of providing a means for alumni to network, announce information of interest to alumni, and to make it possible for alumni to maintain a long-lasting relationship with Osaka University. All former international students, alumni and staff living abroad, and current students of Osaka University are invited to use GCN Worldwide. It is our pleasure to welcome you to GCN Worldwide.

大阪大学同窓生の皆さんへ

大阪大学は、１９３１年に帝国大学として創設されて以来、世界最先端を目指した教育研究を実践し、２万人近くの学生が学ぶわが国屈指の総合大学に発展してきました。2007年10月の大阪外国語大学との統合後は日本の国立大学の中で最も学生数を有する大学になる予定です。

大阪大学は、「地域に生き世界に伸びる」をモットーに掲げ、世界で活躍できる人材の育成に力を入れてきました。また、早い時期から人的国際貢献についての取り組みを始め、これまでアジア地域を中心に海外から多くの留学生を受け入れてきました。2006年5月現在、72の国・地域から約1,000人の留学生が吹田・豊中キャンパスで学問に勤しんでいます。

本学で学生生活を終えられた卒業・修了生は世界を舞台に様々な分野で活躍されており、我が校の誇りでもあります。グローバル化が進む中で、今後益々同窓生同士の結びつき、母校である大阪大学との結びつきは重要になっていくでしょう。大阪大学にとっても同窓生は大変貴重な財産であると考えており、研究・教育面、産業面などにおいて皆さんをこれまで以上にサポートしていく所存です。

GCN Worldwideは、第一に同窓生にネットワーク形成の場を提供する、第二に大阪大学から同窓生向けの有益な情報を発信する、第三に同窓生が個人レベルで大阪大学と恒久的に結びつくことを可能にする、という目的のもと作られました。元留学生だけでなく、海外に在住する元日本人学生も対象としております。「世界に開かれた魅力ある大学」を目標としている大阪大学の同窓生向けサービス、GCN Worldwideをより多くの同窓生の皆さんにお使いいただければ幸いです。
