The Osaka University Groningen Centre for Research Education is located in Groningen city, Holland. It is about 200 kilometers north-east of the Nation’s capital city, Amsterdam. Groningen is the 6th largest city in the Netherlands, and has long been famous as the home of Groningen University.

大阪大学グローニンゲン教育研究センターが位置するグローニンゲンは、オランダの首都であるアムステルダムから北東に約200キロ離れたところに位置するオランダ第6の都市であり、古くから大学の町として有名です。

The Centre was established in April of 2005. With the cooperation of Groningen University, Osaka University was allowed to borrow one of its buildings on the Groningen campus. In October of that same year, a grand opening ceremony was held on the campus grounds. The participants were not only from Japan and the Netherlands, but people from all over Europe gathered for the occasion.

当センターはグローニンゲン大学の協力により、同大学キャンパス内の建物を借り受ける形で、2005年4月に開設されました。同じ年の10月には、グローニンゲン大学構内で開所式を実施し、日本及びオランダだけではなく、ヨーロッパからも関係者が参加する盛大な形で執り行われました。

As for the purposes of the center, it will serve as a window of information for Osaka University in Europe. It will guide students from Groningen University who wish to study or research in Osaka, as well as any people who will be visiting Osaka for their research or academic seminars. It will also do things such as present Osaka University’s official reports at Japan education/study abroad fairs that take place at institutions with whom Osaka University have relationships with, or other European Schools with whom it holds agreements with.

当センターの業務内容としては、グローニンゲン大学から本学へ留学を希望する学生や研究・学会出席のため本学を訪問する関係者への案内に加えて、ヨーロッパの協定校や関係機関で実施される留学フェアなどに参加し、本学の広報を行うなど、ヨーロッパにおける大阪大学の窓口としての役割を果たしています。

In October of 2006, around 20 members of Groningen University staff visited Osaka University. They swapped ideas and opinions concerning academic and student exchanges as well as taking part in partnership symposiums. In this way, active exchanges took place in many forms. It was decided that The Osaka University Forum, which takes place every year overseas will take place in Groningen this June.

また、2006年10月にはグローニンゲン大学から約20名の教職員が本学を訪問し、学術交流・留学生交流などに関する意見交換や共同シンポジウムを実施するなど、これまで様々な形で関係者が交流を行っているおり、今年の6月には、毎年海外で開催されている大阪大学フォーラムがグローニンゲンで実施されることになりました。

Furthermore, in September of 2006, 20 students from Osaka University visited Groningen. They all took a short course on cross cultural exchanges in a program designed for exchange students. The course received excellent reviews and the program is planned to take place in the same way this year.

さらに、2006年9月には、本学学生の20名がグローニンゲンを訪問し、留学生向けのプログラム等に参加する形で異文化交流を行う短期研修を初めて実施し、大変好評を博しました。このプログラムは今年も同様の形で開催する予定です。

My life in the Netherlands is approaching 2 years now and the end of my term is coming closer. Unfortunately, that also means that my return to Japan is nearing as well. On one hand I love my life in Japan, but on the other hand, I feel sad to leave the life in the Netherlands I became so used to. If I am able to come back to this country one day, I would surely want to visit the Osaka University Groningen Research Education Centre, which has spread its' activities and services so vastly.

オランダでの生活がまもなく2年となりますが、残念ながら任期終了のため日本に戻る日が近づいてきました。日本での生活が恋しく思う一方で、慣れ親しんだオランダを離れることもまた寂しく思います。またいつの日かオランダを訪問するときがあれば、さらに活動内容を広げた当センターを訪問したいですね。
