Establishing GCN Osaka Osaka University International Relations Promotions Department Head Hideo Hashimoto	GCN Osakaの開設にあたって 大阪大学 国際交流推進本部長 橋本 日出男
As of May 6th, 2004, Osaka University will be launching GCN Osaka (Global Campus Net Osaka) - an online community site mainly for international students and researchers. GCN Osaka is a unique and brand new experiment which will provide valuable information for international members, such as medical/child care information, online Japanese study lessons and housing information, just to name a few. Much of this information has been gathered with the cooperation of local governments and international exchange organizations from within and outside the University. Members coming to Osaka University from overseas face huge language and cultural barriers. GCN Osaka aims to remove these barriers as much as possible to allow our international members to concentrate on their research and education. We also hope for this site to become useful and meaningful for international members living in the neighboring area as well, through collaborations with local organizations. Please make full use of this community site, GCN Osaka!	大阪大学では、2004年5月6日より外国人研究者や留学生を主な対象とするオンライン・コミュニティー、GCN Osaka(Global Campus Net Osaka)を開設することになりました。このGCN Osakaは、学内外の様々な国際交流団体、自治体などからの協力を得ながら、日本語学習や医療・子育て情報、住宅などの外国人の方に有用な情報をオンライン上で交換をする、全く新しい試みです。海外から大阪大学を訪れる方にとって、言語や文化によって生じる障壁は決して小さなものではありません。このような障壁をできるだけ最小限にとどめ、研究や教育の面で十分な力を発揮できるようにすることがGCN Osakaを開設する第一の目的です。また、大学と地域との連携をめざし、周辺の地域にお住まいの外国人の方にとっても有意義なサイトとなるよう、サイトを公開していきます。是非、このGCN Osakaを活用していただきたいと考えております。
There are many ways to further internationalization of the campus environment and we believe that measures such as the degree to which research and education are internationally competitive, the number of superior researchers and students who have gathered from around the world, will become an important condition for the globalization of the University. Osaka University wishes to maintain its internationally competitive edge by directing our energy to these matters. We hope for international students, researchers, staff members and local community members to actively participate in GCN Osaka and help in the creation of a fruitful, lively site.	大学の国際化をはかる尺度は様々であると考えられますが、研究や教育の分野でどれだけ国際的に通用する大学であるか、国境を越えて優秀な研究者や学生がどれだけ集まっているか、という視点も、大学を国際化していくために必要な条件になると思われます。大阪大学では、このような取り組みを一層、活性化してキャンパス環境の国際化につとめていきたいと考えております。多くの留学生、研究者、教職員、国際交流にかかわる皆様が、GCN Osakaに積極的にご参加、ご協力くださるようお願い申し上げます。
