Place and method of childbirth / 出産の場所

You have the option of giving birth in Japan, or in your home country. Please consider the following advantages and disadvantages of each option before making a decision. When delivering your child in your home country, make early arrangements with the consulting facility as you may need a letter of introduction or medical certificate in a foreign language. There may be restrictions with the airline in terms of boarding period so you should look into that as well.

日本で出産する場合と、出身国に帰って出産 (里帰り出産) する場合の二つに分けることができます。それぞれ長所、短所がありますので、参考にしてください。里帰り出産の場合は、外国語の紹介状や診断書などが必要になる場合がありますので、早めに受診機関に相談してください。また、航空会社によって飛行機に搭乗できる期間に制限があるので、必ず早めに確認しましょう。

1. Place of Birth : Japan / 出産の場所 : 日本

Advantages	便利な点
* safe because you will not have to travel a long distance * you will be familiar with the place of delivery as it will be the same as the place of examination * easy to prepare because you will be aware of insured areas * not much of a difference in fee between facilities	* 長距離の移動がないので安全 * 健診を受けるところと出産するところが同じなので、環境に慣れることができる * 保障される範囲 (保険など) が確定しているため、準備がしやすい * 施設による費用の差が比較的少ない
Disadvantages	不便な点
* might be confused due to the difference in culture in terms of giving birth * not many places which understand foreign languages * must call over a family member if help is necessary	* 出産に関する文化が違うのでとまどうことがある * 外国語に対応しているところが非常に少ない * 家族に手伝ってもらう場合、呼び寄せなければならない

2. Place of Birth : Home Country / 出産の場所 : 出身国

Advantages	便利な点
* no language barrier * can obtain the help of family members * you will be used to the culture and customs	* ことばの問題が生じない * 家族に手伝ってもらいやすい * 自分の文化や習慣に合わせることができる
Disadvantages	不便な点
* the long distance travel could be bad for your body * depending on the pregnancy progress, you may not be able to do it * not consistent	* 長距離の移動を伴うため、からだに負担がかかる * 妊娠経過によっては、希望してもできないことがある * 一貫した管理ができない

Calling over family members	家族の呼び寄せ
When calling over family members for help with the delivery, you will need to obtain a residing certificate (such as short term visit). It may take some time to obtain this certificate so please prepare for it beforehand. We also recommend travelers insurance, just in case.	出産の手伝いのために家族を呼び寄せる場合は、在留資格 (「短期滞在」など) が必要になります。資格取得には時間がかかることもあるので、早めに準備をはじめましょう。また、万が一のために、海外旅行者向けの保険に加入してから来日されることをおすすめします。
