To study at a University in an English speaking country, there is a minimum TOEFL score which must be attained. Although this differs slightly by University, most Universities require a minimum of 550 points, or 213 points if computer based. If you wish to study abroad but have never taken the TOEFL exam, we recommend you to take it in your earliest convenience. Please view the TOEFL heading for further details. With the co-operation of the University co-op, a practice TOEFL exam (TOEFL-ITP; paper base) takes place within the University, a few times a year. Information will be distributed to each department from the division of international students so please take this exam to test your English knowledge at this point in time. Your objective is to draw up your score on the practice exam to the score requested by the University you wish to attend.

When going on a formal exchange to a University with an academic exchange agreement with Osaka University, you will have the advantage of not having to pay tuition to the accepting university. This is possible because you will be studying abroad while remaining an Osaka University student and thus paying tuition only to Osaka University. If you wish to study abroad through this system, carefully choose your university after doing some research on the university by viewing the academic program, visiting the homepage, etc.

大阪大学の学生交流協定締結大学への交換留学の場合、授業料不徴収の特典があります。これは、大阪大学に在学したまま留学し、留学期間中は、大阪大学の授業料を納め、留学先大学の授業料は免除されるというものです。この制度に基づく留学を希望する人は、各大学が提供している教育プログラムをホームページなどでよく調べたうえで、希望大学を決めてください。

Choose when you would like to study, and for how long. From there, make detailed plans on how to attain your goals. When studying abroad, it is standard to start planning and applying for it a year in advance. In other words, by then, you must have 1. attained an English proficiency level suitable for the exchange and 2. have chosen a university you wish to attend.

在学期間中の、いつの時点で、どのくらいの期間、留学したいのかを決めましょう。そのうえで、決めた時期に向けて具体的な準備計画を立ててください。 海外留学は、通常約1年前から申請準備を始めます。 つまり、それまでに、前述のように、1. 留学に必要な語学力に達していること、2. 具体的な希望大学が絞られていること、が求められます。
