.If a foreign national who resides in Japan wishes to change the activity that is the purpose of his residence, he must receive permission for change of status of residence for the new activity.
    If a foreign resident in Japan intends to engage in an unauthorized activity under his/her current status of residence, and such unauthorized activity falls under other status of residence, then the foreign resident does not have to leave Japan and may apply for changing his/her status of residence in accordance with this procedure.
    If a foreign resident intends to change his/her status of residence, he/she must apply to Minister of Justice for changing his/her status of residence in accordance with the applicable procedures as set forth in the Immigration Control Act Enforcement Regulations.

Applicant   Foreign nationals wishing to change his/her current status of residence (except for aliens wishing to change their resident status to "Permanent Resident")
When to submit   From any changes in the applicant's resident status up until the applicant's resident status expires
Who may submit 1. Applicant;
2. The following persons are authorized to submit application form on behalf of the applicant foreign national:
    ○A staff member of organization that is run by or employs the foreign nationals;
    ○A staff member of organization that trains or educates the foreign national; or
    ○A nonprofit organization authorized by the competent authorities under the Article 34 of the Civil Code for the purpose of smooth acceptance of foreign nationals;
3. A lawyer or administrative scrivener that gives notice to the director of regional immigration bureau;

A legal representative of the foreign national;* or
       * "Legal representative" in this context means a legal representative of an applicant who is younger than 16 years old, is always unable to make sense of his/her surroundings due to mental disorder, or significantly lacks such abilities.

The applicant's relative, housemate or other similar person who are regarded as appropriate by the director of regional immigration bureau

(if the applicant is not able to visit the regional immigration bureau by himself/herself because of illness or other reasons)
Fee   4,000 yen for changing the status of residence (Payment must be made with revenue stamps)

(1)A document clarifying the ability to pay all of the expenses during the stay

◎In the case whereby the applicant pays for his/her expenses
      certificate indicating the current bank balance held under the name of the applicant
◎In the case whereby another party is to pay the applicant's expenses, any of the following documents regarding defrayer of expenses
    ①certificate of residence or certificate on registered matters
    ②certificate of incumbency
    ③certificate of tax payment
         (A)certificate of inhabitant tax or income payment, which states the gross income or
         (B)certificate of income and withholding tax or
         (C)duplicate copy of final return or
         (D)pursuant documentation to all of the above

Applicant's diploma or a copy thereof from the University at which the applicant was most recently enrolled

Letter of recommendation from the university at which the applicant was most recently enrolled regarding his/her seeking employment

Documentation which confirms that the applicant has been/is actively seeking employment

A document that proves the status (if a legal representative or agent submits the application form on behalf of the applicant)
